They're so derivative. The same bland self-insert protagonist with the same poorly characterized harem with the same excuse for them to be better than anyone else without having to work for it. It's awful.

though technically our situation is kind of like an isekai, don't you think? a deconstructed one?

Technically, but it has as much to do with the isekai genre tropes as the Tale of Genji has to do with dating sims.

No. It's a romance, but that's about the only similarity.

then you just need to add a few more contestants and make it a dating sim. like in the bachelor.

Because it's a classic. You can make new versions of it if you want and put your own spin on it, but you can't change the original.
